Screenshots

Capture employee screenshots as an optional feature, fully controlled by your organisation's policy. You can also choose the capture resolution (low, medium, high).

Screenshots

Off by default

Screenshot capture is an optional feature in Berqun and is not switched on at installation. Unless your organisation explicitly enables it, no screenshots are taken at all. That is a deliberate design choice, made to keep your proportionality assessment easier to pass.

How to enable it

Go to User Panel → Settings → Berqun Application and switch on "Screenshot capture". The same screen sets the resolution: low, medium or high. Higher resolutions consume more storage.

Before you switch it on

A screenshot is far more intrusive than an application name and a duration. The question under Article 5(1)(c) is whether the same purpose could have been met with the application name and duration alone. If it could, capturing images becomes hard to defend. If you do enable it, it must appear explicitly in your privacy notice.

Frequently asked questions

Can screenshots be disabled entirely?
Yes, entirely — and that is the default state. While disabled, no images are captured or stored.
How long are images kept?
On the cloud plan screenshots are retained for 24 months. Your own retention period should be set against your record of processing.
Can screenshots be taken without the employee knowing?
Technically the application icon is not shown in hidden mode, but that does not create a right to leave employees uninformed. The transparency duty under Articles 13 and 14 is independent of the mode: if screenshots are being captured, employees must know in advance.
